Frequently Asked Questions Question: What is your military background? Answer: As an Enlisted Soldier, I served as a Combat Engineer in the Ohio National Guard, an Infantryman in the 2nd Ranger Battalion, and as a Special Forces Engineer in the 11th SFG (A). After receiving a commission from Ohio State in 1994, I served as an Infantry Officer in the 10th Mountain Division, the 29th Infantry Regiment, and the 18th Airborne Corps. My last assignment was with the 30th Heavy Separate Brigade of the North Carolina Army National Guard which deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. While in Iraq, I served as a Liaison Officer to the First Infantry Division in Tikrit and later with the 1/120th Infantry Battalion at Tuz Iraq. After 23 years, I have decided to retire. Question: Why did you design the Ballistic Combat Uniform TM ? Answer: Once I put on the Interceptor Body Armor (IBA), I realized how vulnerable the rest of my body was to high explosive weapons such as Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) and Rocket Propelled Grenades. I wanted to increase my odds that I would return from Iraq alive, and without any serious wounds or injuries. Question: Have you submitted the Ballistic Combat Uniform TM concept to the US Military? Answer: Yes I have, to include the Natick Soldier Center, Program Executive Officer Soldier, Rapid Equipping Force and also the US Marine Corps. I have also provided the presentation of the Ballistic Combat Uniform TM to members of the US Senate Committee on Armed Services. Question: Do you offer sales or a reduced price for the Army Combat Uniform (ACU) Ballistic Inserts? Answer: Yes, as sometimes I will offer Tacarm products for sale on eBay and Yahoo Shopping. Question: If a fragment pierces one of the IED resistant Shrapnel Shield TM ballistic inserts, will it still do me any good to have been wearing the BCU? Answer: That depends on many factors such as how close you are to the blast, the size of the fragment (s) that impact the Shrapnel Shield TM ballistic inserts, and their velocity upon impact. Overall, the answer is yes, as the damage the fragment causes to your body will be less severe as it could be moving slower after penetrating the Shrapnel Shield TM ballistic inserts. Question: How do I wash the Ballistic Combat Uniform TM? Answer: The same as any other uniform after removing the ballistic and/or non-ballistic inserts. Question: How long will the Ballistic Combat Uniform TM last before I have to buy a new one? Answer: It should last around as long as the style and type military or law enforcement uniforms that incorporate the novel characteristics of the BCU. The ballistic panel inserts should last for many deployments as as they are protected by the uniform that they are inserted into.
